Junior Code Ninja
We're looking for someone who is eager to prove that they can code like a ninja in a professional working environment. Ideally you'll be working towards a degree, but if you can show that you have relevant experience that's fine. What's important is that you have a good understanding of PHP and be willing to learn.
The initial project is writing a number of plugins for our in-house tracking system. The plugins that we need coding will talk to various 3rd parties using a mixture of calling APIs, and scraping data where necessary; so once you've done a few you'll be able to blitz through the rest. We expect it will take a true ninja around 2 months, but if you can do it faster then you'll certainly impress us.
Required Skills:
PHP 5
MySQL
HTML/CSS
cURL
Experience with APIs (SOAP & REST)
Do you have a spare few months this summer?
Does this sound like what you'd be interested in? If so, please let us know!
p.s. If you prove yourself, you may be able to transition into a role that we currently have available detailed below.

Junior & Senior Web Developers
We're looking for smart, ambitious developers to join our existing team. Idealy, you'll have a degree - but if you can show that you have relevant experience then that's okay too.
At Mindwork Labs we use the latest technology, and you will learn lots of cool things; maybe you'll be able to show us some clever stuff too - if so then great! Our application is built using the Service-Orientated Architecture (SOA) model; so we have RESTful APIs sitting behind the frontend, which return JSON. If you're familiar with Javascript/jQuery/JSON, then that's another plus point. Our APIs talk to our cluster of MySQL databases which are replicated for redundancy, so any MySQL knowledge you have can be put to use straight away, whilst you can learn how our redundant systems ensure our 99.9% uptime.
All our code is written in Object Orientated PHP using the Hierarchical model-view-controller (HMVC) architectural pattern. This ensures our code is very modular, and makes our code very easy to maintain. We are using the 'lite weight' Framework, 'Kohana' - which was branched from CodeIgniter; so if you've heard of either of those, that's another brownie point for you.
We also like our search technology; we're using the SOLR search engine from the Apache Software Foundation which is based on Lucene. This enables us to index millions of documents and give instant, relevant search results. This is exciting technology and it's great to see it in action, as well as learning how it all works.
Maybe you're a bit of a UNIX fan at heart; if so, you'll have the opportunity to work on our CentOS systems (based on Redhat) and improve your knowledge there too.
Summary
- PHP 5
- MySQL
- Apache
- HTML
- CSS
- jQuery/JSON
- SVN Source Control
- SOLR
- CentOS
If you like the sound of the above, and you're keen to learn, work
in a friendly working environment in Zone 1 London by the Thames,
